Editorial comment on this plate:
We take great pleasure in presenting our readers, this week, with the promised reproduction in photogravure from Mr. Hartley’s famous marble entitled “Boy and Rabbit.” It is a piece of statuary that won its sculptor great renown when first exhibited in the National Academy of Design of New York. It has not been seen since that time in public, nor has it been illustrated in any periodical or magazine. It is one of Mr. Hartley’s favorite pieces, and is certainly a fine example of artistic composition. It will suggest similar methods of posing childish subjects to ambitious photographers.
