Georges Sand

This famous portrait of the French novelist Georges Sand (Amantine-Lucile-Aurore Dupin: 1804-1876) was taken in 1864 by Nadar (Gaspard-Félix Tournachon:1820-1910) and published the year after she died in the Galerie Contemporaine. Known as the Galerie Contemporaine, Litteraire, Artistique, it was published in 13 volumes from 1876-1884 and featured 241 Woodburytype portraits of:

celebrated personalities in France during the Second Empire and Third Republic captured by well known portrait photographers in Paris, including Adam-Salomon, Carjat, Marville, Nadar, Pierre-Petit. (1.)
